Welcome to the website of the Swiss Seismological Service (SED) at ETH Zurich, with its new, more contemporary and user-friendly design. The website continues to offer relevant information on earthquakes in Switzerland and neighbouring regions, as well as extensive expert content about the subject.
What's changed?
One new feature is that, on larger screens, the menu is displayed on every page, making the page path clearer and facilitating navigation within the website. There are also more main sections so that the various topics are better structured.
In addition, the map showing earthquakes in the last 90 days has been redesigned, making it easier to distinguish earthquakes that may have been felt from smaller ones. All earthquakes with a magnitude of 2.5 or greater are automatically coloured in a shade of red, which, like the blue shade of the smaller earthquakes, decreases in intensity over time.
The new-look website features an expanded section for schoolchildren and teachers, containing ideas and activities for use in lessons. There is also an overview of all installed school seismometers as well as access to earthquake data (for use in school projects, for example).
Next step
For the time being, the new website continues to use the HTTP standard. We are currently working on switching to HTTPS.
