Noise Measurements

a) Description of the seismic equipment

The basic equipment used for the noise measurements is identical to what will be used at the final station:

  • Sensor: STS-2 Streckeisen
  • Digitizer: HRD-24 Nanometrics (120 sps, DC-removal 1mHz)
  • GPS: MicroTracker (external, original Nanometrics digitizer, 5 channels)
b) Power Spectra

Power spectra were computed for two time intervals: 26 November to 5 December 2001 (Figs. 9, 10, 11), and 10 December 2001 to 4 January 2002 (Figs. 12, 13, 14). For all even hours the first ten minutes were taken and a spectrum was computed. The spectra for both time intervals and all three channels are plotted, together with the 'low and high new noise model curves of Peterson'.

c) Seismograms

A set of seismograms (Figs. 15, 16) of all three channels is appended to this report. The station code used for the measurements at the site is CHDAW; upon completion of the station the code will be changed to DAVOX. The numbers on the right side of each seismogram give the maximum amplitude of the plotted trace in counts.
