Noville Network

The Noville network is operated under a contract with Petrosvibri SA. The purpose of the network is to monitor induced seismicity related to a deep exploration drilling project near Noville, VD.

Network

To improve the detection completeness and the location accuracy in the vicinity of the Noville region, VD, a local seismic network has been installed. The Noville network consists of four seismic stations located at the surface. These stations are installed within 2-7 km distance around Noville, VD (Figure 1). Stations are installed close to small villages to benefit from existing infrastructure (electricity and telephone). The network is operating since February 2009.

Stations are equipped with short-period sensors (Lennartz LE=3D 1s ). We use Nanometrics Taurus as digitizers. Data from all stations are streamed in real-time via ADSL to the SED data center in Zurich. Data are merged with data of permanently installed stations to allow for real-time detecing and location of possible earthquakes. A map showing the stations is shown below. Photos of the installation can be found on the right.

Earthquake Activity

Up to now, no earthquakes have been recorded that could be associated with the deep exploration drilling project.
