Banu Mena Cabrera is a post-doctoral researcher of the induced seismicity group at the SED. Her current research focuses on probabilistic seismic hazard assessment for induced seismicity due to enhanced geothermal systems (EGS). She aims to develop an approach to quantify the hazard associated to the microseismicity to be induced during EGS stimulation and post-stimulation phase, on the basis of the statistical analysis of microseismic sequences already occurred in previous EGS sites. She worked on various aspects of engineering seismology during her PhD including; (1) investigation of the causes of near source ground motion variability and its implications to earthquake engineering, (2) development of ground motion selection for input into liquefaction analysis and structural time history analysis, (3) Ground motion simulation including high frequency scattering of seismic waves in heterogeneous media, (4) Implementation of high-frequency scattering of seismic waves in platform-independent programming language for the simulation tools of Southern California Earthquake Center (SCEC), (5) Pseudo-dynamic source characterization and wave propagation due to pseudo-dynamic rupture.
