Broad-band ground motion simulations in the Messina Straits area (Southern Italy)

In this project we focus on the Messina Straits area (southern Italy)
earthquake (Mw 7.1) that struck the area about one century ago (see figure
below). The purpose of this study is to investigate the source and ground
motion characteristics of this earthquake in order to predict variability of
ground shaking levels for future events in this area of study. For that we need
to perform hundreds of simulations accounting for realistic sources and
available velocity models, that requires accurate and efficient numerical
techniques and powerful computational resources.
