Manuel Hobiger works on scientific questions in the framework of the second phase of the renewal and extension of the Swiss strong motion network (SSMNet). During this second phase, 70 more strong motion seismometers are planned to be installed between 2013 and 2019.

The duties of Manuel Hobiger range from the site selection for new stations to the characterization of the underground properties of newly built stations. These site characterization measurements are carried out using different passive and active seismic methods with the final goal of a better assessment of the seismic risk at the respective sites.
